“You’re the little angel on my shoulder when I’m making decisions.”
That’s what one client told me, and honestly, it captures exactly what I’m going for. Not a voice telling you what to do, but a presence reminding you of your own wisdom when life gets complicated.
I beat generational odds to get here. First in my family to go to college, part of a tiny graduating class that pursued higher education and the only Black woman in my graduate program that I paid for myself. Those experiences taught me what it means to navigate spaces that weren’t built for you and how to thrive anyway.
Maya Angelou said, “I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” That wisdom guides everything about how I practice. Your experiences shape you, but they don’t define your limits. The work isn’t about fixing you because you’re not broken. It’s about breaking cycles of unhealthy patterns and building new skills to succeed.
Therapy with me is like being on a council. We bring our agenda of concerns, problem-solve together and work toward positive resolutions. I’m genuinely the funniest person in my family and friend groups (they’ll all confirm this), and there’s no way to not laugh or smile by the end of our conversations.
Healing doesn’t have to be heavy all the time.
I work with teens through adults, especially those with trauma histories, LGBTQ+ individuals, and minorities. I take time to study my clients’ cultures and traditions so I can understand you beyond surface level. My clients have told me things like “I would have done therapy long ago if I knew I could have met someone like you” and “My relationships are stronger than I ever thought they could be.”
Outside sessions, you’ll find me escaping into different worlds through video games, anime, and manga – I love the immersion aspect. I’m a Twitch moderator, can touch my nose with my tongue (weird flex, I know), and once got a perfect 100% singing “Time Bomb” by All Time Low at karaoke. I love to have fun and laugh – it’s the best way to unwind and reset.
There’s no shame in needing support to accomplish your goals. If you’re thinking about therapy, trust that intuition because it’s leading you where you need to be.
After all, if you want a rainbow, you have to embrace the rain.
